What are the reasons for stomach gas

Well, one of the reasons of that is air swallowed while you eat or drink fast and when you talk while eating or drinking. The other reasons could be: increase amount of your saliva or stress, fear. In this cases air is sitting in your stomach and then some of that air is moved to your entrails. While you eat or drink, each time you swallow about 2, 3 mililitres of air.

Another reason for stomach gas can be:

- drinking of carbonated water or drinks. Carbon dioxide from them is absorbed in your entrails.
- eating lots of sweets especially after your main meal
- drinking after each bite of your meal
- eating legumes like bean or pea

Other thing is that good digestion requires a good amount of gastric juices and a good level of enzymes. For example if you don't have enough of lactase in your stomach it could lead to increase amount of gases in your entrails. Similar results can be seen from undigested pieces of food that are sitting in your entrails. They increase the amount of gases while they are decomposed. That kind of effect is usually caused by legumes like bean or pea.

What can we do about stomach gas?

First you can change your eating habits if that is what is causing the problem. Start eating more slowly, chew bites a bit more, don't drink right after that. You can also replace carbonated drinks with noncarbonated one. It's good also to eat less sweets. In your diet try to keep a good balance of food - same amount of protein, fat and carbohydrates. If you really like legumes like bean or pea try to use with them some herbs like savory, caraway or basil. Because of those herbs less amount of gas will be made when those products are digested. In the case when stomach gas already appeared you could help yourself with a tea with mint or camomile. You could also try to increase your movement, do some exercises because this will help to move the gas out of your stomach and entrails. But be sure to do those activities at least 1 hour after your meal.
